A Scottish mother has criticised her local council after she says they refused to move her family from a mould-infested home, which she claims led to her baby being hospitalised three times. Corrie Carr, 24, said she first noticed mould in her two-bedroom council property in Kennoway, Fife, after moving in in 2022.
Mould Returns and Spreads
The mould initially subsided, but in January 2026, Corrie spotted spores on her bedroom walls and blinds. Within months, the mould had spread throughout the house, covering bed sheets and children's clothes. Her two young children, 11-month-old CJ Boyd and three-year-old Beau Boyd, began frequently falling ill with infections.
Baby's Health Deteriorates
Corrie claims baby CJ suffered five chest infections in two months and was admitted to hospital three times due to worsening symptoms. Doctors allegedly told her the issues were caused by a mould allergy and advised the family to leave the property immediately.
Despite providing a doctor's letter, Corrie says her housing officer told her the family was 'not a priority' for alternative housing. Forced to move into a private rental at double the cost, she called the council's decision 'a joke'.
Council Response
John Mills, head of housing services at Fife Council, said the mould was assessed as resulting from condensation, with no evidence of rising or penetration damp. The council completed a whole-house fogging treatment to eliminate spores, along with a fungicidal wash and thermal dry paint. Further advice on condensation was provided.
Corrie remains frustrated, stating: 'I think CJ would've got seriously ill if we'd stayed there.'
