A single mother from Essex, Julie, was left in tears after a millionaire couple offered to help transform her life during an appearance on Channel 5's Rich House, Poor House. Julie, who lives with her two adult daughters in a cramped semi-detached house in Halstead, has been struggling on a weekly budget of just £59 after her doggy daycare business collapsed during the Covid pandemic.
Julie's Story: From Business Owner to Care Worker
Julie once ran a thriving doggy daycare business, but was forced to close it during the pandemic. Now working in a care home, she faces mounting debts and a weekly budget of £58. Her daughter Chloe has no bedroom and sleeps on the living room sofa. Despite her hardships, Julie remains generous and dreams of starting a new business—perhaps a pub or a social hub for the elderly—but has shelved those plans due to financial constraints.
The Millionaire Couple: Jazz and Catia
Jazz, a 36-year-old entrepreneur from Romford, and his partner Catia live in a five-bedroom home with a stunning garden and steam room. Jazz previously ran a £3 million football business employing 150 staff, which he sold in 2020 to set up a consultancy mentoring others on wealth building. He grew up in a cramped West London terrace, a world away from his current lifestyle.
The Swap and Emotional Reunion
During the show, Julie and her daughters swapped homes with Jazz and Catia, enjoying a luxury budget of £1,200 while the couple lived on £59 a week. When they reunited, Julie became visibly emotional as Jazz and Catia revealed their plans to help launch her business venture. Jazz proposed a roadmap to help Julie start a hospitality business, possibly renting premises to offer activities and meals for elderly people. Catia asked, "So how would you feel if we helped you out at the first event together?" Julie broke down in tears, unable to speak. Jazz added, "I'd love to just pave out that road map for you and go through that journey with you and help you to set up that first event." The couple also bought a bed for Chloe and converted the conservatory into additional living space. Julie said, "It's so kind of you to do that for me when you don't even know me."
