Temperatures could hit 33C in parts of the UK this week, the Met Office has said, as the country may see a fourth heatwave of the year. Following a slight drop in temperatures and recent rain, conditions are expected to warm up.
North-south split forecast
Forecasters have warned of a north-south split in heat across the country. The Met Office said temperatures could reach up to 33C for southern and eastern parts.
Temperatures are expected to rise gradually, with peaks of around 24C expected in parts of the country on Monday (July 27). Issuing a forecast for Monday, the Met Office said: "Dry with sunny spells in the south. Northern areas see a few showers initially, then rain spreads east later, heavy at times in western hills. Near-normal temperatures, warmest south."
Hottest day on Wednesday
Much of the country will see a jump in temperatures into Tuesday (July 28), with highs of around 29C expected particularly across southern parts of England. According to Met Office weather maps, Wednesday (July 29) is expected to be the hottest day of the week. Particularly across southern and eastern parts, temperatures are expected to surpass 30C, with highs of around 33C forecast around Cambridgeshire.
From Wednesday, temperatures are expected to dip slightly, with highs of around 27C expected on Thursday (July 30). It may feel a cooler end to the month for many, as temperatures are forecast to fall back to around 24C on Friday (July 31). Issuing a forecast for the week, the Met Office said: "Dry with sunny spells in the south, while northern areas see outbreaks of showers, sometimes heavy. Warm to very warm in southern regions, especially the southeast, with cooler conditions elsewhere."
