A fourth heatwave of the year is gripping parts of the UK, with temperatures in London expected to reach as high as 35C on Wednesday.
Fire risk warning
The Met Office has assessed that fires could be “exceptionally severe” by Wednesday if they start in parts of London, the South East and eastern England.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber heat-health alert for London, the South East, East Midlands, and East.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy warned people to avoid the peak of the hot weather. “Best to avoid being outdoors 11am to 3pm, close your windows and blinds to the sun and stay hydrated,” she posted on X.
Royal Parks precautions
Royal Parks staff have been advised not to leave deckchairs under trees over fears branches could fall during the hot weather.
