Locals in the Welsh seaside town of Llandudno have been left without sleep after motorists turned a car park into a late-night race track. Residents of the West Shore neighbourhood have been "terrorised" by loud motor sounds from a nearby car park, with one stating the noise is "on par" with the famous Brands Hatch race track in Kent.
Residents Describe the Ordeal
The seaside car park, typically used by visitors for evening strolls and sunset views, has become a hotspot for what locals describe as "anti-social behaviour". One annoyed resident wrote online: "Every night there are many cars peeping their car horns some hold down their horns for long periods. It's really annoying and is stopping kids from being able to get to sleep." They added: "Cars race out of the car park and it's only a matter of time before one loses control and hurts someone. Motorbikes are constantly revving engines, which are definitely not road legal as the exhausts are way too loud."
Recurring Issue and Growing Fear
The location has experienced similar issues before, with the last large outbreak in 2024, but residents say now it has surpassed anything they have ever seen. Older residents reportedly fear going outside. One local expressed particular sympathy for those residing in retirement flats along the seafront.
Community and Council Response
A local community group, Friends of the West Shore, whose volunteers organise litter collections and work to enhance the area, is calling for a barrier to be installed at the car park entrance. However, a representative indicated that the council has so far declined to consider automatic number plate recognition cameras. Conwy Council urged residents to contact police directly and confirmed CCTV equipment is present at the facility.
Official Statements
A council spokesman said: "We do not tolerate anti-social behaviour of any kind, we take these incidents seriously due to the distress and upset they cause, and we will take robust legal action when required." North Wales Police confirmed officers have been deployed to the location in both marked and unmarked vehicles.
