Gironde Wildfire Threatens Bordeaux: Race Against Time as Temperatures Set to Hit 38C
Gironde Wildfire: Race Against Time to Stop Flames Near Bordeaux

Flames continue to rage in France, with the Gironde wildfire now threatening the outskirts of Bordeaux. Firefighters and officials are locked in a 'race against time' to try and quash the flames before blistering high temperatures, forecast to be as high as 38C, return later this week.

Jerome Steffe, mayor of Cestas, a town southwest of Bordeaux where thousands of residents have been evacuated, described the Gironde wildfire as 'of a size never seen before'. After breaking out last week near the Atlantic coast, the flames are now 11km away from entry points to the main metropolitan area of Bordeaux and are moving 'erratically' towards the city.
