Raging wildfires in south-west France and central Spain have forced the evacuation of more than 330,000 people, as flames creep ever closer to the French city of Bordeaux and its airport.
Bordeaux Airport Hotel Zone Evacuated
Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated in France's Gironde department, where Bordeaux is located, and the city's airport's hotel zone has been evacuated until further notice.
Shifting winds and arid conditions have complicated massive efforts to limit the spread of the massive blaze that has been burning out of control since the middle of last week. The main fire has caused an unprecedented "pyrocumulonimbus" - a huge fire thunderstorm fuelled by its own winds and lightning, the National Firefighters Federation of France said.
Spain Wildfires and First Death
Meanwhile in Spain, wildfires have burned out of control around Madrid, with evacuations carried out yesterday in the Valencia region. A man was killed in a wildfire in Manises, a Valencia suburb, on Saturday, marking Spain's first recorded death in the latest fires.
Macron to Hold Crisis Meeting
French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a crisis meeting this morning on the wildfires spreading towards Bordeaux.
