George and Amal Clooney have evacuated their French farmhouse in Brignoles, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, as wildfires continue to spread across southeastern France and other parts of Europe. The actor, 65, and the lawyer, 48, left the property with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, as blazes advanced in the region.
The evacuation comes amid ongoing wildfires in France, Spain, Italy, and Greece. In a letter to Brignoles mayor Didier, the couple wrote: "Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment." They added: "As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasize 2 things first, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we'll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there."
Thousands displaced across Europe
The Clooneys are among approximately 3,000 residents evacuated locally. In the Gironde region, 224,000 additional people have been displaced, and a further 63,152 individuals were evacuated in Spain, according to CNN.
The couple has largely kept their personal life private, shielding their children from the public eye. However, George Clooney discussed their decision to make the French farm their main residence in an October 2025 interview with Esquire.
"A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it," he said. "But now, for them, it's like–they're not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life."
Concerns about raising children in Los Angeles
The Hollywood star also expressed worries about raising their children in Los Angeles, believing his celebrity status would overshadow them. "I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life," he said. "France–they kind of don't give s--t about fame. I don't want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don't want them being compared to somebody else's famous kids."
The actor married human rights lawyer Amal Clooney in 2014 at his estate on Lake Como, Italy. Their twins were born in June 2017.
