A new report from Christian Aid warns that climate change is threatening the familiar taste and reliable supply of British tea. Rising global temperatures and extreme weather patterns in key tea-producing regions, including Kenya, India, and Sri Lanka, are altering the flavour profile, making tea harsher and less consistent.
Disruptions to Harvests
These disruptions to harvests are predicted to cause price spikes, increased costs, and unreliable supplies of the nation's beloved brew. Smallholder farmers and tea producers in affected countries are particularly vulnerable, battling direct climate impacts alongside rising costs for fertiliser and fuel.
Urgent Action Needed
Christian Aid is urging immediate action, including developing more resilient tea plants, enhancing irrigation, ensuring fair pricing, and providing dedicated funding to help producers adapt to climate change.
