Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to prove his “doubters” wrong as he fought back against calls for him to resign following Labour’s electoral defeat in local elections across England, Scotland, and Wales.
Prime Minister Accepts Responsibility
The Prime Minister described the election results as “tough” and told an audience in central London: “I get it, I feel it, and I take responsibility.” He emphasized that taking responsibility extends beyond acknowledging the outcomes to explaining how Labour will improve as a political and electoral force in the coming months and years.
Warning About Dangerous Opponents
Sir Keir also issued a stark warning to his party, stating that Britain is “not just facing dangerous times, but dangerous opponents, very dangerous opponents.” He added: “This hurts, not just because Labour has done badly, but because if we don’t get this right, our country will go down a very dark path.”
The Labour leader’s comments come amid mounting pressure from within his party following the electoral drubbing. He acknowledged having doubters but affirmed his determination to prove them wrong, saying: “I know I have my doubters, and I know I need to prove them wrong, and I will.”
