Channel 4 has confirmed that its psychological crime thriller The Light in the Hall: Still Waters will be replaced by a one-off documentary titled How to Get Filthy Rich with Gary Stevenson. The 90-minute film is set to air on Wednesday, July 8, at 9pm, filling the primetime slot previously occupied by the drama.
What to Expect from the Documentary
The documentary follows former Citibank trader Gary Stevenson, now an economic campaigner, as he travels across the UK to examine structural wealth inequality. Stevenson argues that a wealth tax is necessary to address the growing divide between the rich and poor. The official synopsis states: "The former finance trader Gary Stevenson, now making a name for himself on social media, explores the wealth gap which he believes is tearing UK society apart."
During the programme, Stevenson meets individuals struggling financially, as well as multi-millionaires and billionaires. He debates with those who oppose his ideas and engages with supporters of his proposal to tax the super-rich. Channel 4 has described the documentary as "urgent" and "eye-opening."
The Light in the Hall Finale
The Light in the Hall: Still Waters concludes on Wednesday, July 1, with its final episode. The series has followed the story of Llyr Owen (played by Ieuan Evans) and the suspicion surrounding his cousin Rhys Owen (Mark Lewis Jones) in his death. Starring Sian Reese-Williams as Caryl, the drama has kept audiences gripped over its six-episode run.
Channel 4 has not yet announced any further programming plans beyond the documentary, leaving the future of the 9pm Tuesday and Wednesday slots uncertain.
