Elizabeth Lindemann, a food expert and founder of Bowl of Delicious, has shared that turning avocados into a buttery, tasty treat needs nothing more than a pinch of salt.

She said: "Avocado is just one of those things that needs seasoning to bring out its flavours. Ever tried chicken broth without salt? It tastes like dirty dishwater. But add salt, and you have amazing flavour that didn't seem to be there before."

When combined with olive oil and lemon juice, the avocado takes on an even smoother consistency and a more vibrant flavour, which can significantly elevate the enjoyment of this breakfast staple.

How to Make Avocado Toast Taste Better

Ingredients

  • One large avocado
  • Two slices of bread
  • Two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil
  • One clove of garlic (cut in half)
  • Two lime or lemon wedges
  • Sea salt

Method

  1. To start, place the bread in a toaster or put it in the oven under a grill for a few minutes until it becomes nicely toasted.
  2. Once the bread is toasted, drizzle each slice with olive oil while it's still warm. Then, rub the oil into the bread using a clove of garlic to boost its flavour.
  3. Cut the avocado in half and take out the stone. Scoop roughly one-quarter of the avocado onto each slice of bread.
  4. Mash the topping with a fork. Next, cut up the remaining half of the avocado and lay it on the bread on top of the mashed avocado.
  5. Season the toast generously with salt and then squeeze some fresh lemon or lime juice over the top.
