Ants Won't Invade Your Home If You Use Expert's 'Old-School' Method
Expert's 'Old-School' Method Keeps Ants Out of Your Home

With warmer weather on the way, ants will try to get inside your home. The UK is set for another scorcher, with temperatures creeping above 30C in some places next week. Warmer weather means people get outside and enjoy the sunshine - and often they're not alone. Hotter weather also means ants appear in greater numbers. Once ants have appeared in your home, they can be tricky to get rid of. They follow scent trails, and once they've found a food source, they'll keep coming back.

Expert's 'Old-School' Hack

While many homeowners typically turn to chemical powders or sprays, there is another method that can disrupt ants' scent trails and make them less likely to set up shop in your home. Baby powder can help keep ants away from your home without the need for specialist products.

Glen Peskett, a DIY expert from Saxton Blades Multi Tools, said: "Ants follow scent trails, so when one finds food, it leaves a kind of path for the rest of the colony. The idea with baby powder is that it can mess with those trails and make it harder for them to keep finding their way back. It is not going to wipe them out or deal with a big infestation, but some people find it helps cut down what they are seeing in certain spots."

How to Use Baby Powder

All you need to do is lightly sprinkle baby powder at suspected ant-entry points like window frames, skirting boards and doorsteps. This creates a physical and aromatic barrier that confuses the ants.

Prevention Tips

The best way to keep your home ant-free is to keep your home as clean as possible. Ants are drawn to food, so make sure to clean up spills immediately and take the bins out regularly. He also recommends not leaving pet food out in bowls and storing sugary items in airtight containers to keep ants out.
