East Kilbride Hiking Club Battles Rain and Gale-Force Winds

The East Kilbride Hiking Club recently completed two challenging walks in Glencoe and Arran, battling rain and gale-force winds. Despite the adverse weather, members remained in high spirits, with waterproofs proving essential.

Glencoe Hikes from King's House Hotel

Two hikes departing from Glencoe's well-known King's House Hotel saw both groups smiling through the rain. The low-level group headed eastwards in drizzle, passing Black Corries Lodge to reach Lochan Meall a’ Phuill. Meanwhile, the tougher climb up Buachaille Etive Mòr provided a real sense of achievement for many members, who completed the lengthy ascent in arduous conditions.

Arran Outing Altered by Weather

Another fully booked outing to Arran aimed to have one group ascend Goatfell while the other made a loop hike into Glen Rosa. However, gale-force winds and poor visibility at the summit of Arran's highest mountain forced a change of plan. Both groups walked Glen Rosa, where the wind remained strong as it whistled up the glen. All members deserved their double social hour, enjoying time in Brodick waiting for the ferry and 45 minutes on the CalMac returning to Ardrossan, completing a wonderful day out.
