Cleaning Expert Shares Simple Trick to Stop Bins Smelling in Summer
Cleaning Expert's Trick to Stop Bins Smelling

Lynsey Crombie, widely known as the 'Queen of Clean', has shared her expert advice on keeping bins fresh during the warmer months. With summer temperatures rising across the UK, household bins can become a source of unpleasant odours and attract flies. The cleaning influencer, who has amassed millions of views for her viral videos and regularly appears on This Morning, spoke exclusively to The Express to offer her top tips.

One of the most effective and affordable solutions, according to Lynsey, is a common kitchen ingredient: bicarbonate of soda. She recommends sprinkling a couple of tablespoons at the bottom of the bin before inserting a new bag. This natural deodoriser neutralises acidic smells, keeping the bin fresh. The experts at Good Housekeeping note that this trick can remain effective for up to three months, but due to potential leaks, weekly application is advisable.

In addition to bicarbonate of soda, Lynsey suggests using essential oils to maintain a pleasant scent without harsh chemicals. A few drops of lemon, eucalyptus, or tea tree oil on a cotton pad placed between the bin liner and the bin can provide natural antibacterial and insect-repelling benefits. She also advises soaking cotton pads with citronella and positioning them near the bin area, or using citronella incense and fly-repelling pouches.
