Estate agents and other property professionals are being encouraged to step away from their desks next Friday (23 October) for the latest Property Industry Lunch Break, organised by The Boys Club, a wellbeing community for men working in property.
The initiative encourages people across the sector to take time out for lunch with colleagues, friends or industry contacts. The invitation comes as the industry's autumn awards season gathers pace, with a busy calendar of black-tie dinners, conferences and networking events ahead.
No tickets, speeches or formal arrangements
The Property Industry Lunch Break takes a different approach. There are no tickets, speeches or formal arrangements. Instead, participants simply organise lunch with someone they know.
The initiative launched in March and returned in June. Both events encouraged property professionals to connect away from their usual working environment. The Boys Club had more than 400 members at the time of the June event.
Supporting community and connection
The group provides a supportive community where agents can discuss workplace challenges and share experiences. Members also competed in the Agents Giving Dragon Boat Race earlier this year. The Boys Club team won the competition, despite several participants meeting for the first time on the day.
Ben Madden, founder of The Boys Club, said: “We’re not anti-awards night. Far from it. But at this time of year, it’s easy to see more of each other in black tie than in daylight. One hour, someone you work with, and a conversation that isn’t about that nightmare chain. That’s all we’re suggesting.”
How to take part
Those taking part on Friday 23 October can arrange lunch at a restaurant, pub or another convenient location. There is no registration requirement or central event. Participants are also encouraged to share photographs on social media using #PropertyIndustryLunchBreak and #TheBoysClub.
Madden added: “This is an industry that can get a buyer, a seller and three solicitors to agree on a completion date. I’m fairly confident we can manage lunch.”
