London witnessed chaotic scenes as members of the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action staged a series of disruptive protests across the city, resulting in multiple arrests.
Activists targeted several high-profile locations, including government buildings and corporate offices linked to arms manufacturers supplying Israel. Police confirmed at least a dozen arrests following clashes with demonstrators.
Protesters Demand End to UK-Israel Arms Trade
The protesters, waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans, demanded an immediate end to Britain's arms trade with Israel. "We won't stop until the UK stops profiting from Palestinian blood," one masked activist told reporters before being detained.
Police Response and Disruptions
Metropolitan Police deployed riot officers to contain the demonstrations, which caused significant disruptions to traffic and business operations in central London. Several roads were temporarily closed as officers worked to clear protesters.
"While we respect the right to peaceful protest, we will not tolerate criminal damage or threats to public safety," a police spokesperson stated.
Growing Tensions Over UK Foreign Policy
The protests come amid growing criticism of the UK government's stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Palestine Action has vowed to continue their campaign of direct action until Britain "cuts all ties with Israel's war machine."
Political analysts suggest these demonstrations reflect deepening divisions in British society over foreign policy issues, particularly among younger activists.
