Environmental campaigners have staged a renewable energy demonstration at Donald Trump's golf resort in Scotland, installing mock wind turbines on a green to protest his stance on fossil fuels.
Greenpeace confirmed that three activists set up six small, replica wind turbines on the fourth hole green at Trump Turnberry Golf Club in South Ayrshire at approximately 6.30am on Monday. The demonstrators later removed the turbine models as golfers approached, ensuring their round was not disrupted.
The activists stated their action was a direct response to Donald Trump's known aversion to wind power and his vocal support for oil and gas. This protest follows a recent post by Mr Trump on his Truth Social page, advocating for increased oil and gas extraction in the North Sea.
Lily-Rose Ellis, Greenpeace climate campaigner, said: 'Donald Trump wants to keep us as lifetime members of his Gulf Club... but we don’t need to stay stuck in his sand trap – the renewables Trump hates are the best insurance policy against the chaos he’s unleashed.' She added that wind and solar farms built since the start of the Ukraine war have saved millions every day.
The US president has long voiced his dislike of wind turbines, particularly for offshore wind energy, having launched a battle with the Scottish Government to stop a development which was visible from his Aberdeenshire golf course.
