GB News came to a halt to air a breaking update on the ongoing migrant crisis. A breaking news banner appeared across the screen, revealing there has been a surge in small boat crossings as 10 migrant boats departed from French beaches in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Crushing Blow for Andy Burnham
It's a crushing blow for Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who recently claimed the current Labour Party plan to stop small boats is working. Presenter Emily Carver then revealed that police have released footage of an illegal migrant from South Sudan, who turned up at a school armed with a seven-inch knife, a hammer and petrol.
"He was wrestled to the ground by police and we've got the footage to show it," she said.
National Security Crisis Warning
Reacting to the disturbing footage, GB News' Home and Security Editor Mark White explained: "This is a perfect illustration of what many people have warned, saying that the small boat crisis is also a national security crisis."
Mark White shared further details on the breaking update. He revealed that the 21-year-old illegal immigrant in the footage, named Both Douk Deng, had applied for asylum but was rejected on three separate occasions. However, he was not removed from the country, meaning he was able to roam free on the premises of Edgar Wood Academy in Heywood on August 6 last year.
Deng was also armed with a hatchet knife, with reports claiming he became "increasingly frustrated" that immigration authorities were not allowing him to stay and work in the UK.
Jailed for Seven and a Half Years
Mark remarked: "Thank god it was the summer holidays. There were some workmen working at the school. They saw something suspicious in this individual and called the police."
Mark told viewers that Deng has now been jailed for seven and a half years, half of which he'll spend in custody. He read out a statement from the Home Office, in which they pointed out that 70,000 illegal immigrants and foreign national offenders have been removed from the UK since Labour came to power.
The GB News star added: "The fact is, this man applied and was turned down on three separate occasions. They had time to remove him from the country. They didn't. Thank god the school was on holiday and we didn't see a real tragedy potentially unfolding here."
