A two-year-old dog that was found crying in a cage on a remote mountainside in Greece is now searching for a new home in the UK. The fluffy white-and-tan pooch, which weighs just 13kg, was discovered by the team at Greek Stray ResQ during a visit to a shelter in Amaliada in June.
Rescue Discovery
The shelter is perched on a mountainside and is maintained by just one volunteer. Dogs rarely leave their kennels and spend their days confined to cages. The stray dog had been rounded up from the streets and placed in a small cage with little human contact. Nothing is known about her past.
A Dog Without a Name
Despite the isolation, the dog remains friendly and loving. Rescue workers say she leans in for every stroke she can get, cherishing brief moments of human kindness. The most heartbreaking detail is that she does not have a name. The charity hopes her future family will be the first to give her one, along with the love and security she has never known.
Ready for Adoption
The healthy dog has been neutered and fully vaccinated. She is ready to travel to the UK for the right forever home. Greek Stray ResQ said no dog deserves to spend their entire life watching the world pass by from behind bars, especially one with such a gentle nature. The story comes after another unwanted dog, a two-and-a-half-year-old Kangal cross, was poisoned and left for dead. The stray was forcibly removed and dumped in a remote village where she was not welcome. In the UK, an estimated 100,000 dogs are homeless. The RSPCA recorded nearly a 25% surge in animal abandonments driven by the cost of living crisis.
