Jennifer Ellison, best known for her role as Emily Shadwick in the Liverpool-based soap Brookside, took to the stage at the Liverpool Empire Theatre as the smash hit show Mean Girls The Musical opened. The 43-year-old actress, who is no stranger to the stage with West End credits including Singin' In The Rain, Boeing Boeing, and playing Roxie Hart in Chicago, is portraying three characters in the production: Ms Heron, Ms Norbury, and Mrs George.
Opening Night With Familiar Faces
The musical, based on the 2004 film of the same name starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, had its opening night on Monday, October 19. Several of Jennifer's former co-stars and other familiar faces turned up to support her, including Suzanne Collins from Brookside, Louis Emrick from Brookside, Max Ainsworth and Phil McGuinness from G'wed, TikTok star Rosie Jones, Margo Oakly from Race Across The World, former Traitors contestant Minah Shannon, and TikTok star Niall O'Callaghan.
Ellison on Her Three Roles
In an interview with the ECHO, Jennifer shared her excitement about returning to the stage. She said: "I'm really excited, I'm a little bit nervous. I play three different characters so I'm going to have to get to grips with it. Every time I come off stage I've got a wig change so it's going to be fun. It's going to test my memory especially as I'm getting older. But yeah I'm really looking forward to it."
Jennifer said she is most looking forward to portraying Mrs George, who is "not like a regular mom, a cool mom" to quote the classic movie. The mum-of-three is stepping into the high heels of Mrs George alongside her other two roles in the production.
