Nicole and Benaiah Grunewald-Bridi, who met and married on the debut season of Netflix's Love Is Blind UK, have lifted the lid on a crucial part of the ceremony that never airs on screen.
Legal Documents Signed During Filming Break
Benaiah told Heart Bingo: "What you saw on TV was our wedding. Actually we said our vows and then they paused filming for us to sign the legal documents, and then got the cameras rolling again." He added: "There's a lot on the line on Love is Blind. Saying 'I do' is such a big deal."
Secrecy and Wedding Rings
The couple had to keep their relationship a secret for nearly a year. Production teams asked the newlyweds to avoid wearing wedding rings in public as it could spoil the outcome of the show. Benaiah recalled: "It was nearly a year between filming and the last episode airing. You weren't meant to put anything on social media or even wear your wedding ring in public." Nicole interjected: "I secretly still wore mine."
Her groom continued: "I had to pretend to a lot of my friends and family that I was single. When I'd travel to see Nicole, I'd have to lie that I was going to see a friend. We even spent Christmas together and I lied to a lot of people close to me that I was spending it with friends. In fact, many people in my life only found out I was married when they saw the wedding episode air. That was hard. You don't want to keep things such a secret but you sign NDAs and you have to follow the rules."
Still Together Three Years On
Fans will be delighted to know the pair are still happily loved-up three years on. The first eight episodes of Love Is Blind UK season three are now streaming on Netflix. The next batch of episodes will release on August 26.
