Lewis Capaldi reportedly treated England fans to almost £2,000 worth of drinks at a London pub after the Three Lions’ win against Mexico on Monday. The Scottish singer, 29, was watching the England game with a group of pals including Rita Ora at the Malborough pub in Mayfair. After their epic triumph, he reportedly put his card behind the bar and told staff to charge all the drinks to him in a “legendary” gesture.
Details of the gesture
“When the final whistle went and England won, Lewis bought every single punter in the Marlborough a drink. Bar staff were instructed to charge all the drinks ordered to him,” a source told The Sun. “The tab was almost £2,000 in the end. It was a massive treat and a real lovely gesture, especially from a Scotland fan. Lewis was there from kick-off with his mates and was joined by Rita, who was with her friends, as the night went on.”
“Lewis was a proper legend. As well as buying that massive round he was so sweet to anyone who came up to him. He didn’t make a fuss of it, he just wanted to celebrate and the people in the boozer absolutely loved it.”
Previous acts of kindness
This isn’t the first time Capaldi has shown kindness towards fans. In September, he made a generous donation to a fan with a rare health condition after meeting her outside his gig in London. The Survive singer spotted Madeleine Thurgood and her mother Carina before his concert at the O2 Arena and introduced himself to them.
Carina explained that Madeleine, who uses a wheelchair, has Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia 15, a recessive genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle stiffness and weakness. Carina, who set up The Maddi Foundation in 2016 in her daughter’s honour, gave Capaldi a leaflet about a charity football match they were organising. Capaldi took the leaflet and donated “a few thousand” to support the match just 10 minutes later, prompting Madeleine and Carina to “cry on the spot”.
In March of this year, Cat Cavelli thanked Capaldi for his “kindness”, after her daughter had a distressing incident involving Chappell Roan’s security. Capaldi posted photos of her 11-year-old daughter Ada meeting Capaldi at Lollapalooza festival in Sao Paolo.
Upcoming performances
After his England celebrations on Monday, Capaldi played a concert in Newcastle and is set to put on back-to-back performances at BST Hyde Park this weekend. He added a second show on Sunday due to high demand for his Saturday performance and will be supported by Conan Gray and Jacob Alon on both nights. After his run of shows this summer, Lewis is heading back to the studio to start work on his third album, the follow-up to his 2023 number one, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent.
