Actress Cynthia Nixon made a stunning style statement this week, revealing a dramatic new blonde hairstyle at a high-profile New York event.
A Glamorous Premiere Night
The Sex and the City star, aged 59, attended The Gilded Age season three premiere in New York City on Tuesday, captivating onlookers with her transformed appearance. Nixon chose a sophisticated all-black ensemble that featured an open blazer revealing a matching bra beneath.
She complemented this bold look with a pleated skirt in the same colour and elevated her stature with classic black stilettos. The actress accessorised thoughtfully with a white clutch bag and elegant silver earrings that completed her striking outfit.
The Dramatic Hair Transformation
Most noticeable was Nixon's hair, which she has lightened to a much blonder shade and styled into a sleek pixie cut. This represents a significant departure from her signature red hair that fans associate with her iconic character Miranda Hobbs from Sex and the City.
Interestingly, Cynthia Nixon is naturally blonde, making this new look something of a return to her roots. Her hair journey has been quite public in recent years - during the first season of the spin-off show And Just Like That, she sported grey hair after producers decided Miranda would have let her natural colour show during the pandemic.
Behind the And Just Like That Changes
Appearing on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Nixon explained the thinking behind Miranda's grey hair transformation. 'Michael Patrick King who is our chief writer and director, he was like, 'You know, a lot of women during the pandemic, they couldn't get out to the beauty parlor and they decided to go gray and then they decided that they liked it', she recalled.
The creative team believed Miranda would be the character most likely to embrace this natural change, making it an authentic character development rather than merely a style choice.
Earlier this year, both Cynthia and her co-star Kristin Davis expressed their sadness when And Just Like That concluded after three seasons. Nixon shared her emotional response, stating she couldn't believe their 'wild beautiful And Just Like That ride' was almost over, while Davis wrote about being 'profoundly sad' about the series ending.
Nicole Ari Parker, who joined the cast in 2021, also shared her gratitude for being part of the 'iconic family'. Show writer Michael Patrick King explained the decision to end the popular series, noting that while writing the final episodes it became clear this was the right time to conclude the story.
