Casualty: Dylan Survives Car Crash, Reunites With Son Matty

Dylan Survives Crash, But Another Patient Dies

In Saturday's episode of Casualty (July 18, 2026), consultant Dylan Keogh (William Beck) was involved in a road traffic collision after relapsing earlier this month. He had been drinking at an event following a keynote speech, struggling after learning that colleague Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) had been sleeping with his son, Dr Matty Linlaker (Aron Julius). Dylan reported Stevie's morphine overdose mistake and the affair to Clinical Lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix), which nearly cost Stevie her career. When Flynn confirmed Stevie would keep her job on reduced duties, Dylan's reaction widened the rift with Matty, who later witnessed his relapse.

The Crash and Aftermath

Dylan visited his father Brian at a care home, but Brian did not recognise him due to years of drinking. Brian made cruel remarks, prompting Dylan to rush out and get into his car, where he drank from a bottle. He left Matty a voicemail saying he is not like his dad and that he cares. At the hospital, Matty and Stevie grew worried when they could not reach Dylan. They listened to the voicemail, which ended with a loud crash. Stevie urged Matty to call back, but they saw colleagues gathered as Clinical Nurse Manager Siobhan (Melanie Hill) received a call about a collision with serious injuries.

Misidentification and Breathalyser Test

Matty was told to sit out but refused and joined colleagues as ambulances arrived. The injured man was not Dylan but had his coat. Dylan was in another ambulance with only a facial cut. Flynn, tipped off by Stevie about the relapse, asked Dylan to take a breathalyser test before assisting trauma patients. The test confirmed Dylan had not been drinking. Meanwhile, the patient initially thought to be Dylan went into cardiac arrest. Matty struggled to stop compressions despite urgings from Dylan and others. The patient was revived but not expected to survive, leading Dylan to inform the family that life support was keeping him alive.

Father-Son Reconciliation

Matty realised he should have listened to Dylan, who promised to overcome his addiction and be there for him. The duo shared an emotional hug, hinting at a proper father-son relationship. Casualty airs Saturdays at 8:20pm on BBC One or streams from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
