Caroline Towning, partner of Sharon Horgan's ex, dies at 42

Jeremy Rainbird, the former husband of actress and writer Sharon Horgan, is mourning the tragic death of his girlfriend, Caroline Towning, who passed away at the age of 42.

A Life Cut Short in Mexico

Caroline Towning, a renowned equine artist and the former managing director of the Blacks private members' club in London's Soho, died in a hospital in Mexico. She was living there with Mr Rainbird, who is 52 and shares two teenage daughters with his ex-wife, Sharon Horgan. The circumstances surrounding her death have not been publicly disclosed.

A Heartfelt Tribute and a 'Tumultuous' Romance

Jeremy Rainbird shared an emotional tribute to Caroline on social media, affectionately referring to her by her nickname, 'Pony', which she acquired due to her profound love of horses. He wrote, 'Beautiful Pony, the brightest shining light. Forever in my heart.'

Their relationship had only been revealed to the public last Friday in the Daily Mail, with friends describing it as 'tumultuous'. Despite this, the couple had recently shared affectionate photographs from their holidays in destinations such as Los Angeles, Nevada, and the Greek island of Mykonos.

Art, Business, and Personal Struggles

Beyond her artistic career, Caroline Towning and Jeremy Rainbird were co-directors of the fashion label Maison Rockman. The brand specialises in black faux-leather designs and is scheduled to launch next spring.

An amateur showjumper in her youth, Caroline had been open about her personal challenges in recent months. She posted online about confronting inner 'darkness' and stated that she 'would rather sit in pain and create [art] than choose happiness'.

Jeremy Rainbird's own whirlwind romance with Sharon Horgan famously inspired her hit Channel 4 comedy, Catastrophe, which explores the chaos of modern relationships. Mr Rainbird, known as Jez, was chairman of the Merman Group, the production company behind shows like the BBC hit Motherland, which Horgan also wrote.

The couple separated in 2019 after a 14-year marriage. Earlier this year, Sharon Horgan reflected on their split, stating she regretted not ending the marriage sooner. She is now in a relationship with her Bad Sisters co-star, Barry Ward.
