Juliet Cadzow, best known for playing Edie McCredie on the beloved CBeebies series Balamory, has undergone a dramatic transformation for her latest theatrical role, leaving fans astonished. The Glasgow actress, who portrayed the cheerful school bus driver and mechanic on the BAFTA-winning show that aired from 2002 to 2005, now appears unrecognisable as Norma Desmond in the production Sunset Boulevard: The Backstage Cut.
From Balamory to Hollywood Glamour
In Balamory, Cadzow's Edie McCredie was a fixture of the fictional Scottish island, driving children to nursery in her yellow bus and repairing vehicles at her blue garage. The show's revival earlier this year attracted 1.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched CBeebies launch of 2026. However, Cadzow has now swapped her light blue t-shirts and colourful cardigans for a glamorous period gown and headscarf, embodying the faded Hollywood star Norma Desmond.
Written and directed by Morag Fullarton, the production explores Billy Wilder's iconic 1950 film and the backstage conflicts during its making. Alongside Cadzow, the cast includes John Kielty, Mark McDonnell, and Frances Thorburn.
Fans React to the Transformation
Audiences have been stunned by Cadzow's remarkable makeover. One viewer commented, "What an incredible transformation. She completely disappears into the role." Another added, "I genuinely didn't recognise her until halfway through." The reaction has been widespread, with many expressing disbelief that the actress behind Edie McCredie could look so different.
Beyond Balamory, Cadzow's credits include Still Game, Doctor Who, Skins, and the Scottish soap River City. Reflecting on her time as Edie, she told the BBC: "I still get folk, who are in their mid-20s now, coming up to me and saying, 'Oh God, you were Edie McCredie!'" She fondly recalled the experience, saying, "It was a huge part of people's lives, and what fun it was to do. We got up to hi-jinks on Mull and we were a great big family."
Balamory's Enduring Legacy
The original series aired from 2002 to 2005 and remains a cherished part of childhood for many. The revival on CBeebies brought back nostalgia for fans, with Cadzow reprising her role. Her latest project, Sunset Boulevard: The Backstage Cut, showcases her versatility as an actress, taking on a darker, more dramatic character that contrasts sharply with the sunny Edie McCredie.
Fans can watch Balamory on BBC iPlayer, while Sunset Boulevard: The Backstage Cut continues to draw attention for Cadzow's stunning transformation.
