Former Love Island star Georgia Steel has lifted the lid on the strict rules contestants must follow inside the villa, including limited showers and mandatory late-night confessionals. Steel, who appeared in series four in 2018, Love Island Games in 2023, and the first All Stars in 2024, shared the behind-the-scenes details with NetBet UK.
Shower and Bedtime Rules
Steel revealed that contestants are only allowed to shower once a day, before getting ready for the evening. “You were also only allowed to shower once a day before getting ready for the evening,” she said. Additionally, no one can go to bed until they have completed their Beach Hut session. “You can't go to bed until doing your Beach Hut. I always remember that because sometimes the nights would be so long and all you'd want to do is go to bed but you'd have to wait to do your Beach Hut and then you can get into bed,” she explained.
The Beach Hut is the show's iconic confession booth where islanders speak directly to camera. Each session lasts between 10 and 30 minutes, and contestants must wait outside in the garden until the last session finishes, often late into the night.
Bag Policy and Accessories
Steel also noted that bags were not a focus during her time. “Bags weren't a thing when I was in there. You have your mic and you have your little mic pack and I always remember putting my lip liner in my mic pack because sometimes they close off the villa and everyone has to stay in the garden. For example, if you're doing a recoupling it can take a long time so I would always take my lip liner in my mic bag,” she said.
This comes as current series fans have been distracted by contestant Ellie Chadwick carrying a £2,000 Prada wicker basket bag. Amy Bannerman, eBay’s Pre-Loved Style Director, told The Sun: “I wanted a way to add more eBay to the Islanders’ non-swimwear looks and give us an opportunity to talk about eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee offering… There isn’t more of a focus on bags this season, but they have got more airtime from Ellie’s iconic Prada moment, which is great.”
Georgia Steel's Future Aspirations
Since leaving the villa, Steel has appeared on Celebs on the Ranch, Celebs Go Dating, Celebrity Coach Trip, Ex on the Beach: Peak of Love, and Love Island Games. She now hopes to join a show where she can learn a new skill. “I'd like to a show where I'd learn something like Bake Off or MasterChef but my dream is to do Strictly. I went to performing arts school and my grandparents were ballroom dancers so that would be a nice family tradition and I never got to meet them so that would be so special,” she revealed.
Love Island airs Sunday to Thursday on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm.
