Amanda Owen, star of Channel 4's Our Yorkshire Farm, has hit back at critics who have taken aim at her clothing choices. The 51-year-old mother of nine said that when it comes to farming, practicality matters more than appearance.
Speaking on the My Wardrobe Malfunction podcast, Owen recalled one incident where a mini skirt she wore was described as 'an absolute travesty'. She said: 'Usually when it comes to farming and being outside and all the rest of it, it's pretty much leggings, jeans, jumpers, shirts, that kind of stuff. But actually, it doesn't matter, if you can do the job.'
Owen, who separated from husband Clive in 2022 after 22 years of marriage, also defended her children's eclectic dress sense. 'You would've seen some pretty incongruous sites, you know children in tutus with wellies and blazers and bits. It doesn't matter, it does not matter. You know, anything that puts a smile on their face and makes them feel good, that will do,' she said.
The shepherdess recently spoke about the life lessons farming has taught her children. On BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live, she said: 'One is that you don't always win, you do not always win. If you fear failing then that is going to seriously hamper you.' She described how nursing a sick animal often ends in death, teaching the children resilience.
