Wimbledon Star Warned Over Dress Code Breach

Wimbledon star Jessica Bouzas received a stern warning from the umpire after nearly breaching the tournament's strict all-white dress code during her first-round victory. The Spanish player, ranked 52nd in the world, defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 6-3 on Court 17, but a detail on her outfit caught the official's attention.

Towards the end of the match, a black undershirt became slightly visible on Bouzas' lower back, prompting the umpire to warn her to ensure it does not happen again. Bouzas stood on court looking up at the umpire as spectators began to leave.

Player's Explanation

Bouzas later explained the exchange to Movistar Plus Deportes: "A problem here is that they are very strict with many things. I think it was a bit of black here, and you can't do that, so I will have to sort it out. But yes, they are very strict with things like this, so now I'll see how I can fix it."

Strict Guidelines

Wimbledon's dress code mandates that "competitors must be dressed in suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white and this applies from the point at which the player enters the court surround. White does not include off white or cream." The rules also state: "There should be no solid mass or panel of colouring. A single trim of colour around the neckline and around the cuff of the sleeves is acceptable but must be no wider than one centimetre (10mm)."

Colour contained within patterns is measured as a solid mass and must stay within the 1cm limit. Logos formed by material variations or patterns are not allowed. However, female players may wear "solid, mid/dark-coloured undershorts provided they are no longer than their shorts or skirt."

Next Round

Bouzas' win set up a second-round clash against Dayana Yastremska, which she won 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 in three sets.
