The third series of Time has launched on the BBC, with the first episode airing on Sunday evening on BBC One and iPlayer. The prison drama, created by Liverpool's Jimmy McGovern, was a hit with fans when it first aired in 2023.

Cast and setting for the new series

Siobhan Finneran reprises her role as disillusioned prison chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell, becoming a figurehead of the series. The new series also features David Tennant as veteran officer Bailey, a man in the middle of his own crisis.

Unlike the first two seasons, the third season of Time was not filmed in Liverpool, but it will showcase local Liverpool talent, including the son of boxer Paul Smith Junior.

It continues: "Marie-Louise takes up a new position at a young offenders' institution, and finds herself at odds with custodial manager Bailey over how to handle a young man with a stammer who has recently reconnected with his birth mother."

Viewers can expect three powerful episodes to air over the next week. When tragedy strikes the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with Bailey. The new series will also follow two teenage young offenders, Peter and James, who struggle through the terrifying first weeks and months of their incarceration.
