Channel 4's Handcuffed: Tilly Martin's Return to Reality TV After Bear Grylls

Channel 4's outrageous new reality show Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing has introduced viewers to a familiar face from the broadcaster's past. Tilly Martin, one of the 18 contestants competing for a £100,000 prize, previously appeared on another Channel 4 survival programme a decade ago.

A North London Barmaid Juggling Three Jobs

The straight-talking North London barmaid, who balances three separate jobs, is currently chained to millionaire car enthusiast Antony Kearsley on the controversial social experiment. Hosted by Jonathan Ross, the show features nine pairs of strangers who have never met before, representing a cross-section of British society.

In a divided Britain, Ross hopes that living in such close proximity will force these opposites to talk, listen, and potentially learn from each other. The competitors are literally handcuffed together twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, with every activity conducted just inches apart—including using the toilet and showering.

The Rules of Engagement and Escape

The cuffs are initially locked in position with the duos on either side of a special screen, meaning they only discover who they've been chained to once the divide retracts. If the situation becomes too overwhelming, participants can uncuff themselves at any time, but doing so immediately eliminates them from the competition. The last pair standing claims the entire £100,000 prize.

Tilly Martin's Previous Television Appearance

Fans may recognise Tilly from her previous stint on Channel 4's survival show The Island with Bear Grylls. She appeared as a contestant on the third series of that programme in 2016, becoming known as part of a group of female contestants who successfully completed the extreme survival challenge.

Despite facing harsh conditions and internal team tensions during her time on The Island, Tilly later stated she would gladly repeat the experience—even though she harbours personal fears of spiders and the dark. Her resilience from that earlier challenge now serves her well in the demanding environment of Handcuffed.

Confronting Challenges and Sleep Deprivation

Speaking about her current experience on Handcuffed, Tilly revealed: "Antony snores and we had some days where it was fine but some days it weren't. I think whoever I would have been handcuffed to that would have been a problem for me."

She elaborated on the difficulties of sleep deprivation: "I don't cope very well when I'm not in my own bed and I fidget and then I panic if I'm not sleeping so that was my worst thing. Then you've got to contend with the tiredness of it the next day so I'd say that was my most difficult part."

Tilly acknowledged the inevitable confrontations that arise when chained to someone completely opposite: "It's difficult because you are going to have somebody that's completely opposite from you and you're obviously going to have some kind of confrontation with it. But you've got to minimise that confrontation so much that they don't leave."

Viewer Anticipation and Broadcast Details

Fans will have to watch how Anthony and Tilly navigate their relationship as they spend every moment just inches apart. The show represents a bold experiment in human interaction under extreme constraints, testing both physical endurance and psychological resilience.

Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing launched on Monday, March 2 at 9pm on Channel 4, where it is available to watch or stream. The programme continues Channel 4's tradition of boundary-pushing reality television that examines social dynamics under pressure.
