This City Is Ours series 2 start date and new cast revealed

The BBC has released a trailer for series two of crime drama This City Is Ours, confirming that all episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer from Sunday 25th October, with the series broadcasting on Sunday and Monday evenings at 9pm on BBC One from the same date.

The series stars Sean Bean, Julie Graham and James Nelson-Joyce and follows Liverpool crime lord Ronnie Phelan (Bean), whose ambition to leave the criminal underworld following one final significant drugs transaction sparks a fierce battle for control between his trusted lieutenant Michael Kavanagh (Nelson-Joyce) and Phelan's hot-headed son Jamie (Jack McMullen). Following eight episodes, it concluded with a dramatic confrontation involving kidnappings, and now after more than a year's hiatus, the BBC has unveiled fresh trailer footage and promotional imagery for the eagerly awaited second series.

Who's joining the cast?

Endeavour and Betrayal star Shaun Evans portrays former criminal Ozzie Thompson, freshly released from jail, while Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, Immaculate, The Wheel of Time) takes on the role of Felipe Guzman, a member of the Colombian cartel and younger sibling of Ricardo, who met his death at the conclusion of series one.

The returning ensemble includes Jack McMullen as Jamie Phelan, Mike Noble as Banksey, and Julie Graham as Elaine Phelan, the widow of slain gang boss Ronnie. Gavin and Stacey favourite Laura Aikman reprises her role as Rachel Duffy, alongside Kevin Harvey as Bobby Duffy, Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Cheryl Crawford, Darci Shaw as Melissa Sullivan, Adam Abbou as Freddie, and Bobby Schofield as Bonehead.

What's series 2 about?

Michael and Diana have scarcely touched down in Spain before being pulled back into matters to address questions surrounding Ricardo's demise. Meanwhile in Liverpool, tensions remain simmering amongst the surviving gang members.

At the same time, an old-school gangster from Ronnie's generation, newly freed from prison, seeks recompense from the organisation. This City is Ours was shot in Liverpool and the surrounding area, with further filming taking place in Spain. This City Is Ours series one is available on BBC iPlayer.
