This City Is Ours returned to Liverpool for a star-studded city centre premiere ahead of the release of its second season. The BBC crime drama held a special screening of episode one at FACT Picturehouse, attended by the show's cast and crew.
The eagerly anticipated series arrives on BBC and iPlayer this Sunday, October 25, with eight new episodes. The story picks up six days after the dramatic end to series one, when Banksey (Mike Noble) killed cartel member Ricardo by running him over on Old Hall Street.
Cast and Crew Q&A at FACT Picturehouse
The ECHO attended the special screening and a subsequent Q&A with the cast and crew. Show creator Stephen Butchard told the crowd that the theme of this series was consequence, as Banksey's act throws a grenade into Michael Kavanagh's (James Nelson-Joyce) plans to leave behind his life of crime.
Twelve members of the cast and crew were in attendance at the Wood Street cinema, including Mike Noble, Jack McMullen, Adam Abbou, James Nelson-Joyce and Kevin Harvey.
Stars Speak About Representing Liverpool
Ahead of the screening, the ECHO spoke to lead star James Nelson-Joyce and fellow cast members including Jack McMullen, Saoirse Monica-Jackson, Julie Graham, Laura Aikman and Darci Shaw. The stars spoke about their pride in representing Liverpool and what fans can expect from the upcoming season.
Jack McMullen expressed pride in putting his home city on screen in cinematic style. Darci Shaw, who is still based in Liverpool, said she loves working in her home city. Julie Graham, originally from Glasgow, said she feels a synergy with the city and Scouse mums.
New and Returning Cast Members
Saoirse Monica-Jackson, who moved to the city five years ago, said she is proud to be part of putting her new home city on screen. Laura Aikman, one of few people in the show not from the city, said she is proud her Scouse accent has been accepted by Liverpool viewers.
The series has been renewed for a third season, and James Nelson-Joyce said he is proud to front the show in his home city.
