The American remake of the BBC comedy series Ghosts has arrived on Netflix, and fans are calling it an "absolute masterpiece." The first three series of Ghosts US are now available to stream in the UK, with all five current series still on BBC iPlayer at no extra cost.
The show reimagines the beloved BBC original, which aired from 2019 to 2023 across five series and three Christmas specials. The original is also making a comeback with a spin-off film, The Possession of Button House, set to hit cinemas this week.
What is Ghosts US about?
Ghosts US follows freelance journalist Samantha and chef Jay, who inherit a vast, dilapidated country estate and decide to turn it into a bed and breakfast. They soon discover the property is haunted by a colorful ensemble of spirits, including a flirtatious Prohibition-era lounge singer, an arrogant 1700s militiaman, a '60s hippie, and an overly cheerful '80s scout troop leader.
The twist is that Samantha is the first living person who can see and hear the ghosts, much to their dismay. A sixth series is planned, which would outlast the original in longevity.
Fans compare it to the original
Ghosts US holds a slightly higher Rotten Tomatoes score than the original: 97% versus 96%. Fans have been quick to share their opinions, with many admitting they enjoy the American version more.
One viewer said: "So much better than the UK version. This version is superior in every way. The ghosts are more interesting and the storylines have more depth."
