Channel 5's The Teacher Returns for Season 3 with Victoria Hamilton
The Teacher Season 3 Premieres on Channel 5 Tonight

Channel 5 has officially announced the highly anticipated return of its popular drama series, The Teacher, with season 3 set to premiere tonight. This marks another successful comeback for the broadcaster, following the recent return of detective drama Ellis for its second season last month.

A New Lead for the Anthology Series

In this latest installment, acclaimed actress Victoria Hamilton, known for her roles in The Crown and Unforgotten, steps into the lead role of Helen Simpson. She takes over from Kara Tointon, who portrayed the main character in season 2 back in 2024. The first season, which aired in 2022, featured Sheridan Smith in the starring role, making this anthology series a revolving door of talent.

Plot and Premise

The new season delves into the story of Helen Simpson, a teacher with three decades of experience who finds herself at odds with the modern "woke" ideologies embraced by younger generations. The central conflict arises when Helen clashes with influential student Cressida Bancroft, whom she accuses of being a "woke warrior" merely seeking popularity.

This confrontation sparks a fierce battle of ideals, with Cressida determined to turn the world against Helen. Her campaign of revenge soon extends to Helen's family, including her son Sam, escalating the tension dramatically.

As Helen investigates Cressida's past, she uncovers a troubling history of sadness and neglect. The burning question remains: has Helen learned enough about her adversary to prevent Cressida's final, devastating act of revenge?

Victoria Hamilton on Her Role

Speaking about her attraction to the project, Victoria Hamilton expressed enthusiasm for tackling such timely subject matter. "I was really excited to explore subject matter that is really pertinent to now, and I don't think I've ever seen it discussed this way, or in such depth," she said.

"We're looking at the problem of the generation divide and what gets lost in translation between us, which is something people continually talk about. As a mother of teenagers myself, it's very refreshing to see a script that actually addresses what has broken down in our communication."

Hamilton also drew parallels to another hit series, noting: "When I was reading the script, it really reminded me of the feeling I had reading Doctor Foster - that compulsive page-turning quality. The Teacher shares that same thriller element where you desperately want to know what happens next."

Supporting Cast and Broadcast Details

Season 3 features an impressive ensemble cast including Steve Edge as Terry Simpson, Rochenda Sandall as Tessa Stewart, along with Alice Grant, Olly Rhodes, Peter Ash, Navin Chowdhry, Ellis Jupiter, Shak Benjamin, Malek Alkoni, and Natalie Gavin.

Previous seasons have boasted notable actors such as Samuel Bottomley, Cecilia Noble, Sharon Rooney, Will Mellor, and Emmett J Scanlan, maintaining the series' reputation for strong casting.

The Teacher season 3 begins its week-long run on Channel 5 at 9pm on Monday, March 30, with subsequent episodes airing on Tuesday 31, Wednesday 1, and Thursday 2. This concentrated broadcast schedule promises to deliver an intense, binge-worthy viewing experience for audiences.
