Filming of the popular ITV quiz show The Chase has been delayed after one of its stars, Shaun Wallace, underwent knee replacement surgery. The 65-year-old, known as the Dark Destroyer, revealed he was hospitalised for the operation and is now undergoing daily rehabilitation to return to the studio.
Wallace, who has been a Chaser since the show's inception in 2009, shared his recovery progress on the Royal Kennel Club podcast. “I’ve been training every single day to make sure I can physically walk up and down the plank when I go back on March 17th,” he said. “I’ve got to make up my own recording time – I’m in virtually every day from then.”
The delay affects the filming schedule for the main show as well as the upcoming spin-off, Chase Around The World, set to begin production in May. The new series will see teams race in pairs, solving puzzles and finding clues to locate the Chasers in secret locations worldwide.
Host Bradley Walsh expressed excitement about the spin-off, stating: “This bold new take on The Chase combines quizzing with travelling and will test contestants’ knowledge like never before.” Wallace, alongside fellow original Chasers Mark Labett and Bradley, remains a key figure in the franchise, which has spawned several spin-offs including Beat The Chasers and The Chasers’ Road Trip.
Before his television career, Wallace worked as a criminal barrister and won the BBC quiz Mastermind in 2004 with FA Cup Finals as his specialist subject.
