Critically-acclaimed writer Taylor Sheridan, known for Yellowstone, Landman, Mayor of Kingstown, and Dutton Ranch, is reportedly developing a new series set in Scotland. The project, tentatively titled The Laird, is said to be a drama focusing on a lord and his country estate, according to unverified reports.
What Is The Laird About?
While details remain scarce, an insider told The Sun that the series is “likely to explore the links between Scotland and America.” This echoes Yellowstone character Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), who revealed his ancestors emigrated from the Scottish Highlands to the New World before and after the American Revolutionary War. The source also noted: “In a darker chapter of the country’s history, many Scots also became involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade, becoming rich landowners in the process and giving their names to many of the slaves they owned.”
Is It a Yellowstone Prequel?
No new Yellowstone prequel has been announced by Sheridan or Paramount+ beyond the previously greenlit 1944. It remains unclear whether The Laird is part of the Yellowstone universe or a standalone project. Fans of Outlander will note the title's similarity to Jamie Fraser's role as Laird Broch Tuarach, but no connection has been confirmed.
Production Timeline
According to Times Radio, filming is expected to commence in Scotland later in 2026, suggesting a potential 2027 release on Paramount+. Reach Plc, publishers of the Daily Record, have approached Paramount for comment.
Other Sheridan Projects
While awaiting The Laird, fans can look forward to Dutton Ranch Season 2, The Madison (starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell) Season 3, Marshalls Season 2, Lioness Season 3, and Mayor of Kingstown Season 5 (final season, greenlit January 2026).
