Strictly Come Dancing fans were left unimpressed after presenter Josh Widdicombe made an error during Saturday's episode, broadcast on October 24, when he incorrectly claimed a contestant had performed the first worm of the series.
The mistake occurred during the opening stages of the show, as Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb and his professional partner Jowita Przystał awaited the judges' feedback following their Jive to The Rockafeller Skank by Fatboy Slim. During the routine, Lawrence executed the worm, a move that caught the attention of the panel and viewers alike.
Josh Widdicombe's Claim Quickly Corrected
As the couple stood before the judges, Josh said: "Do you know what? I'm going to stick my neck on the line and say that is the first worm of the series, Lawrence." A breathless Lawrence replied: "I think it might be?" However, Josh then turned to the judges and repeated: "I think it might be," followed by an odd sound before being swiftly corrected.
One of the judges quickly pointed out that professional dancer Julian had already performed the move during a results show dance-off with Dame Sarah Storey. Realising his error, Josh responded: "Oh, of course."
Viewers React on Social Media
Home viewers were equally quick to notice the blunder, with one taking to social media to write: "Lawrence was the first worm of the series I think NOT Josh." Another chimed in: "Excuse me Josh, Julian did a worm in the dance off last week thank you." A third weighed in on the dispute, commenting: "The judges seem very awkward tonight."
Meanwhile, the judging panel were not entirely won over by Lawrence's routine. Craig Revel Horwood highlighted his errors while the others chanted: "Make it end." He also fired back at Motsi Mabuse, quipping: "Thanks for telling me what I've known for 22 years" after she attempted to stick up for the contestant. Nevertheless, she urged the actor to 'go back to the dance rehearsal room' and put in greater effort.
Lawrence Acknowledges Mistakes
Lawrence himself admitted he concurred with the judges and acknowledged he had made several errors. The pairing ultimately racked up a combined total of 19.
