Delta Goodrem is set to return to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom tonight (October 24) with professional partner Kai Widdrington, after being forced to sit out last week's episode due to injury. The 41-year-old Australian singer has shared an emotional video documenting her recovery, which has prompted an outpouring of support from fans.
In the rehearsal studio earlier this week, Goodrem revealed her determination to overcome the setback. She said: "I was not going to go down without a fight. I had to process all the emotions pretty quickly. I definitely got a bit rocked and and a bit shocked, but I think [it helped] just working through and going 'I'm going to be there Monday.' Kai's been so amazing."
A Fractured Rib and an MRI Scan
The footage posted on Instagram began with a hospital appointment last Sunday, where Goodrem confessed the discomfort was leaving her feeling sick. She underwent an MRI scan the following day, after which medics informed her she had a fractured rib. The clip showed her battling to contain her emotions as she waited for a verdict on her Strictly future.
Additional videos revealed her conducting a video conversation with dance partner Kai before embarking on her initial post-injury stroll on day six. Goodrem wrote on Instagram: "I filmed little moments over the past two weeks to remind myself that even on the frustrating days, there would be progress. I was gutted when the injury happened as I've been truly loving this experience so much."
Fan Support and Tonight's Performance
Following the video's publication, the performer was flooded with encouraging responses. One person said: "Strongest person I know! Remarkable what you've managed to achieve to come back the way you have! A true Warrior Bring in tonight." Another added: "Many many hugs, Delta. You are a Warrior, an inspiration. I hope that you felling better soon, you are a beautiful dancer. Let's go, girl!"
Goodrem continued: "It's hard to be patient when you want to be full force again but I've been listening, taking things carefully and learning to appreciate the small steps! Heading into show day feeling grateful to be able to take a few more tonight with all the incredible help from everyone around me xx. To all my warriors out there in your own battles i see you and am with you - we are fighters! #Teamdeltakai will see you tonight."
The duo are scheduled to perform the Rumba to Celine Dion's It's All Coming Back To Me Now. Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
