Strictly fans criticise triple dance-off, next exit predicted

Strictly Come Dancing fans have voiced the same complaint after the show's first-ever triple dance-off, which has also sparked a fresh prediction about the next couple to leave the competition.

During Sunday's (November 1) results show, three couples landed in the dance-off for the first time in the BBC One show's 22-year history. The change meant the three couples with the lowest combined judges' scores and public votes danced again, with the judges voting on which couple to eliminate, rather than the usual two-couple format.

Lawrence and Jowita eliminated

Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb and his professional partner Jowita Przystal were eliminated following Saturday night's (October 31) Halloween special. Lawrence scored 26 for a tango to Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr., placing them just above Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita, and Graeme Hall and Lauren Oakley, who tied at the bottom of the week six leaderboard.

In the dance-off, Bethany Antonia and Nancy Xu performed their Jive to I'm In Love With a Monster by Fifth Harmony, Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu performed their Salsa to Filthy / Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters, and Lawrence and Jowita performed their Tango to Ghostbusters. Head judge Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood all chose to eliminate Lawrence and Jowita, with Motsi Mabuse saying she would have done the same had her deciding vote been needed.

Fans question the format

Viewers took to social media to question the triple dance-off, which returns to a two-couple format for the rest of the series. @ElizabethChalk4 said: "What is the point of a three-way elimination when only one goes home? I thought two were going. Confused." @C4R013256 echoed: "What a pointless charade! They still only eliminated one couple, so why bother."

@RyanSoapKing25 commented: "I also want to say I hope we don't have another 3-way dance-off this series, and I don't really see the point of one unless we had a double elimination. A celeb gets eliminated either way via vote to save or eliminate anyway. Why have one for one week only as well in the middle of the series it makes no sense. #Strictly."

@eastieariana786 wrote: "The fact if it wasn’t for the triple dance off, Bethany and Jaime would have been the Bottom 2 and one of them would have gone for sure. Bethany and Jaime get behind me!!! #Strictly."

Prediction for next exit

@smallstepforsam suggested: "The other two will be in the dance off next week so." @JSaverise added: "Never bring back the 3-way Dance-Off. NEVER." The show continues with the standard two-couple dance-off for the remainder of the series.
