SNL stars win $250k on Millionaire with Swift answer

Saturday Night Live stars Michael Che and Colin Jost won $250,000 on the US version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after correctly answering a Taylor Swift-themed question. The duo, playing for charities Answer the Call and Food Bank for NYC, had reached the $125,000 mark when host Jimmy Kimmel posed the challenge.

The $125,000 Question

The question was: 'Ironically, what innuendo-laden song is the shortest track on Taylor Swift's album The Life Of A Showgirl?' The options were A) Wood, B) Cruel Summer, C) Anti-Hero, or D) Karma.

Che joked: 'Innuendo-laden, is that a terrorist?' to which Kimmel replied: 'You're thinking of Innuendo Laden.' Jost took a more analytical approach, working through the runtime of each track. 'Cruel Summer is 3:23, Karma is 4:24, So, there's one, that's why I was originally thinking that it was A. I don't want to explain to you why,' he told Che.

The Correct Answer

Jost added: 'And, I feel like the irony is, if you know some of the lyrics of the song, is talking about size,' as his partner told him to 'lock it in, baby. I wood…'

The answer was indeed Wood, which runs at 2 minutes, 30 seconds. In an added twist, it is the only one of the four songs that features on The Life Of A Showgirl. Cruel Summer (2 minutes, 58 seconds) comes from the 2019 album Lover, while Anti-Hero (3 minutes, 20 seconds) and Karma (3 minutes, 24 seconds) both come from 2022's album Midnights.

Another Contestant's Misfortune

Not every contestant has fared as well. In a recent re-run of the UK show on ITV Quiz, contestant Sanjay Basu, a self-described rugby fan, lost out when he answered without using a lifeline. Asked 'Which of these sportsmen has not been knighted? A) Jonny Wilkinson B) Steve Redgrave C) Chris Hoy D) Andy Murray?', he replied: 'I'm pretty sure the answer is Andy Murray.'

Host Jeremy Clarkson responded: 'You know how they say a lot of money changes people? You're never going to have to worry about that. It's the wrong answer.'

The correct answer was A) Jonny Wilkinson, who has never received more than a CBE. Basu explained he thought Wilkinson had been knighted because he was retired, to which Clarkson snapped: 'You don't get knighted just because you retire.' Basu was sent home with just £1,000.
