Rob Brydon Makes Major Sitcom Comeback in New BBC Series
First-look images have been released, showcasing Welsh actor and comedian Rob Brydon, 60, making his highly anticipated return to the sitcom world. He takes the lead role in the new BBC comedy series titled Bill's Included.
Beloved Actor Embraces New Character
Rob Brydon, adored by audiences for his portrayal of Uncle Bryn West in the iconic series Gavin and Stacey from 2007 to 2024, now steps into the shoes of Bill Beam. This character is a well-intentioned yet overly enthusiastic landlord navigating life after divorce.
To stay financially afloat, Bill rents out his spare rooms to a group of university students, creating a mismatched household dynamic. The premise revolves around his comedic struggles to balance being a responsible property owner with becoming an honorary housemate, often resulting in hilarious failures.
Chaos and Camaraderie in a Shared Home
The series promises to deliver chaos and growing pains as Bill and his unlikely lodgers develop unexpected friendships. A synopsis for Bill's Included teases the students' less-than-ideal living situation, featuring a grueling 90-minute commute to campus, a strict bin rota, and group votes for takeaway orders initiated by their middle-aged landlord.
Despite the awkwardness and unconventional setup, the household begins to gel, partly because the rent is remarkably cheap. As Bill and his lodgers navigate heartbreak, reinvention, and emotional upheaval, surprising parallels emerge between university life and mid-life crises.
The central questions posed are whether they can overcome their differences, embrace their found family, and help each other muddle through. Specifically, can Bill learn to be both a landlord and a friend? The answer is humorously uncertain, as he tends to get overly excited and potentially ruin things.
Star-Studded Cast and Production Details
Filming is currently underway, with a release date to be announced in due course. The ensemble cast includes Samantha Spiro and Nigel Lindsay as Bill's neighbours, Siobhan and Martin, while Kevin Eldon plays Drew, a record shop owner.
The student lodgers are portrayed by Dylan Brady as Christian, Ada Player as Hettie, Harry Baxendale as James, and Yasmin Al-Khudhairi as Zahra.
Creative Team Expresses Excitement
Lead actor Rob Brydon shared his enthusiasm, stating, "I feel very lucky to be part of Bill's Included. Alex Owen and Ben Ashenden have written some truly wonderful scripts, and I can't wait to help bring them to life."
Rupert Majendie, Executive Producer at Baby Cow Productions, added, "Bill's Included is exactly the kind of show we love making at Baby Cow. It's big, character-driven comedy with real emotional truth at its core, full of brilliantly funny performances led by the incomparable Rob Brydon. We are so excited for everyone to meet Bill."
Executive producers include Rob Brydon, writers Alex Owen and Ben Ashenden, Rupert Majendie, and Alan Partridge actor Steve Coogan.
Rob Brydon's Expanding Television Portfolio
Beyond his acting career, Rob Brydon has been the presenter of the popular panel show Would I Lie To You? since 2009, taking over from original host Angus Deayton. In 2023, he expanded his repertoire by fronting the new BBC game show Destination X, where contestants traveled in blacked-out coaches and helicopters, guessing their locations based on clues.
Earlier this year, he also presented The Floor, a high-stakes ITV Sunday night game show, further showcasing his versatility as a television host and entertainer.
