Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, the comedy duo behind Sky's Rob & Romesh Vs, have entered the world of Celebrity Traitors, describing their friendship as destined despite their contrasting personalities. The pair, who met on the comedy circuit over a decade ago, credit their shared humble backgrounds for their instant connection.
Shared Struggles and Work Ethic
Romesh explained that both came from families that faced difficulties, with parents who worked relentlessly. He said: "We both come from families that had their struggles. My parents worked constantly. It was difficult for us growing up and I think it was the same for Rob."
He added that this upbringing instilled a drive to work hard in an industry that's tough to break into, starting with accepting any gig across the country. "And we just haven’t lost that attitude, I guess," he said.
Rob, 40, attributed his work ethic to his father's example: "My dad used to drive a lorry for 12 or 14 hours a day. So how can I not do this?"
Romesh's Surprising Traitors Experience
Romesh admitted his personality might not suit everyone, saying: "I am the wrong flavour for certain types of people. There’s certain types of personality that just rub people up the wrong way."
He also confessed he initially underestimated the show's intensity. "I thought that it was faker than it is," he said. "It becomes all-encompassing; it's a pretty amazing experience. It is so immersive, I couldn’t believe it."
The 48-year-old revealed he only signed up because his youngest son, after watching a previous series, told him it would be "really cool" if his dad took part. "I only really went on for him," he shared.
Rob's Chaotic Time in the Castle
Rob found the experience "more fun to watch than being" due to its intensity. He joked about wearing "crotchless trousers on the round table" and advised viewers to watch episodes six to eight for the worst outfits.
He was also impressed by fellow contestants, expressing a desire to have Jerry Hall on his podcast Parenting Hell, and was stunned by Maya Jama's appearance, joking: "We can’t be the same species."
Despite the show's deception and "emotional baggage," Rob confirmed their friendship remained unchanged: "Yeah, yeah, the friendship is exactly the same."
