Richard Hammond's Workshop back for sixth series on Quest

Richard Hammond is returning to television with a new series of his Quest programme, Richard Hammond's Workshop, which launches on October 27. The show follows the presenter as he runs The Smallest Cog, his classic vehicle restoration business in Herefordshire.

The synopsis states that viewers will witness Hammond "take bold creative risks to turn The Smallest Cog into an internationally recognised name". It adds: "The Herefordshire workshop tackles its most ambitious and intricate restorations yet, while grappling with business expansion and the challenges of recruiting new staff. From high-profile projects to quirky classics, expect Hammond's trademark chaos as he balances passion with hard-nosed decisions."

Sixth series since 2021 launch

Now in its sixth series since launching in 2021, the programme continues to track Hammond as he swaps his globe-trotting career for a lifelong ambition to establish a classic vehicle restoration business.

Hammond launched The Smallest Cog in August 2021. On the shop's website, he revealed that his love of the automotive world was sparked by his grandfather, a coachbuilder at Mulliners of Birmingham.

Viewer reactions

Viewers have shared their opinions on IMDb, with one describing the show as "excellent viewing", while another commented: "A fantastic heart-warming family show, that puts a smile on your face".

One review read: "At first I was not sure about this, Hammond has made some great TV, so I gave it a try. I was hooked, the whole family is hooked by it. Great characters, storylines and interesting subjects. It's not just about car restoration, it covers much more."

Another viewer wrote: "I've always enjoyed Richard Hammond's contribution to Top Gear, and as the three, Clarkson, May and Hammond have moved on to independent projects of their own, I was delighted to see that Hammond was going to engage in Classic Car Restoration, something that he has professed an interest in for a long time."

One final reviewer said: "I didn't know what to expect, hoped it would not be another 'fake drama, look, its RH doing stupid things making a p*** of himself again' type show. It is not that at all!"

They added: "He has teamed up with a couple of very down-to-earth and extremely talented people and put their careers and his own money on the line. It's well filmed, well scripted, seems very genuine and thoroughly enjoyable to watch. RH is doing the right thing by his team and starting a business in a very competitive arena. It's a fascinating insight."

Hammond shared on The Smallest Cog's website: "Me, I inherited his enthusiasm for cars and engineering but, it would seem, none of his natural, innate skills. I became a radio and TV presenter and spent thirty years commenting on other people's efforts in the auto world. But the motor trade was in my blood and that is what binds us to The Smallest Cog."

Richard Hammond's Workshop starts on Quest on October 27.
