Richard Hammond returns with 'most ambitious' workshop season yet
Richard Hammond returns with bold new workshop season

Richard Hammond is returning to television with a new season of his Quest series, Richard Hammond's Workshop, which begins on October 27. The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour host will be seen taking on what the show describes as its most ambitious work yet at his Herefordshire restoration business, The Smallest Cog.

The series, now in its sixth season after debuting in 2021, follows Hammond as he focuses on building the classic car restoration workshop he has long dreamed of establishing. The logline for the new run teases that fans will see Hammond "take bold creative risks to turn The Smallest Cog into an internationally recognised name."

Ambitious restorations and business challenges

The show's description adds: "The Herefordshire workshop tackles its most ambitious and intricate restorations yet, while grappling with business expansion and the challenges of recruiting new staff. From high-profile projects to quirky classics, expect Hammond's trademark chaos as he balances passion with hard-nosed decisions."

Hammond opened The Smallest Cog in August 2021, and the business has continued to evolve over the years. Away from television, the car enthusiast is known for running the restoration workshop in Hereford.

Viewer reactions to the series

Fans have shared their thoughts on the show via IMDb reviews, with one calling it "excellent viewing," while another added: "A fantastic heart-warming family show, that puts a smile on your face."

One viewer wrote: "At first I was not sure about this, Hammond has made some great TV, so I gave it a try. I was hooked, the whole family is hooked by it. Great characters, storylines and interesting subjects. It's not just about car restoration, it covers much more. It gives great insight into Hammond's personal and family life, as well as other characters who you end up loving. It's nice to see a TV show with good values, fun and funny at times."

Another viewer commented: "I've always enjoyed Richard Hammond's contribution to Top Gear, and as the three, Clarkson, May and Hammond have moved on to independent projects of their own, I was delighted to see that Hammond was going to engage in Classic Car Restoration, something that he has professed an interest in for a long time."

Hammond's passion for cars

Hammond has explained on the shop's website how he developed his passion for the automotive world through his grandfather, who was a coachbuilder at Mulliners of Birmingham. The presenter shared: "Me, I inherited his enthusiasm for cars and engineering but, it would seem, none of his natural, innate skills. I became a radio and TV presenter and spent thirty years commenting on other people's efforts in the auto world. But the motor trade was in my blood and that is what binds us to The Smallest Cog."

Richard Hammond's Workshop starts on Quest on October 27.
