Prime Video Drops 'Most Twisted Thriller of 2026' Based on Popular Book
Prime Video's Most Twisted Thriller of 2026 Lands

Prime Video has added a new film that a television critic has described as the 'most twisted thriller of 2026.' The movie, based on a 2022 novel by Freida McFadden, stars Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar.

Critic's Endorsement and Box Office Success

Television critic Luke Ecclestone shared his review in a TikTok video, calling it 'one of the most talked about films that went absolutely viral last year.' The film grossed over $400 million (£299 million) at the box office following its cinematic release in 2025. Ecclestone noted, 'If you're a fan of mystery thrillers, you are definitely going to want to check this out.'

Plot and Reception

The Housemaid follows Wilhelmina 'Millie' Calloway (Sweeney) as a nanny for the child of Nina Winchester (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Sklenar). Ecclestone explained, 'However, when Sydney gets there, nothing is at it seemed. His wife is absolutely insane. There is so much going on and this is one of the most twisted films to drop all year.' He added that while it is 'not one of the best mystery thrillers' in recent times, it is 'really solid' and 'really enjoyable.'

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 172,000 reviews. One recent review stated, 'The Housemaid is ridiculously fun, so contrived but ever so entertaining. This in part is helped by the go for broke acting of the leads, especially Seyfried.' Another user commented, 'The Housemaid twist is insane!' while a second confessed, 'The Housemaid twist honestly shocked me.' However, a third viewer was less impressed, saying, 'I thought it was a load of rubbish. It's so silly!'

Prime Video Synopsis and Availability

Prime Video's synopsis reads: 'A struggling woman is happy to start over as a housemaid for an affluent, elite couple.' The film is now available to stream for subscribers. Ecclestone predicted, 'They will probably make more of them. So if you like films that have you constantly questioning and leave you constantly shocked, this one is definitely worth sticking on.'
