Peaky Blinders Spin-Off Cast Members Unveiled as Story Shifts to Post-War Birmingham
Award-winning actor Jamie Bell has been confirmed to take on the pivotal role of Duke "Erasmus" Shelby, the new leader of the violent crime gang, in an upcoming Peaky Blinders spin-off series. The announcement, made on Thursday 02 April 2026, reveals that the narrative will move to post-Second World War Birmingham in the early 1950s, picking up a decade after the events of the recently released film, The Immortal Man.
Star-Studded Cast Joins the Shelby Saga
Joining Bell in the cast is Charlie Heaton, known for his role in Stranger Things, alongside Jessica Brown Findlay from Downton Abbey and Lashana Lynch, star of The Day Of The Jackal. Actress Lucy Karczewski is also set to make her television debut in the series, adding fresh talent to the ensemble.
The spin-off will explore an "older, wiser, more ambitious and more dangerous" Duke Shelby, as he navigates the changing landscape of Birmingham in the aftermath of the war. This continuation follows the conclusion of the original television series in 2022, which starred Cillian Murphy as the ruthless gangster Tommy Shelby.
Creator Steven Knight Expresses Excitement
Steven Knight, the creator and writer of Peaky Blinders, shared his enthusiasm for the new project. "I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s," he said. "We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again."
Series Details and Global Reach
The new show has been commissioned for two series, each consisting of six 60-minute-long episodes. It will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer, BBC One, and Netflix, ensuring broad accessibility for fans worldwide. This expansion comes just weeks after the release of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a spin-off film where Murphy reprised his iconic role.
Originally launched on the BBC in 2013, the television series following the Birmingham-based crime family the Shelbys has grown into a globally successful franchise. The spin-off aims to build on this legacy, delving deeper into the Shelby dynasty's tumultuous journey through mid-20th century Britain.
Further details about the plot and additional cast members are yet to be announced, but anticipation is already building among audiences eager for more of the gritty, dramatic world of Peaky Blinders.
