Apple TV's acclaimed post-apocalyptic thriller Pluribus, hailed as one of the best shows in years, has received a disappointing update regarding its second season. Despite being renewed for two seasons ahead of its premiere, filming has not yet begun, and the writers' room has reportedly gone back to square one.
Record-Breaking Debut
Pluribus, created by Breaking Bad mastermind Vince Gilligan, debuted in November 2025 and quickly became the most-watched show and biggest global drama series launch in Apple TV history. The series surpassed even the astonishing viewership of Severance season two, cementing its place as a streaming phenomenon.
The sci-fi drama stars Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka, a writer who becomes isolated when an alien virus turns the rest of humanity into a blissful hive mind. The show also features Karolina Wydra as Zosia, among other cast members.
Season 2 Update from Rhea Seehorn
In a recent interview on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast, Seehorn revealed that there is still no word on when production for season two will commence. “We don't know [when it begins filming],” Seehorn stated. “They're in the writers' room right now. No, I don't [know anything].”
She added that Gilligan had told her to “sharpen my pantomime skills,” joking about the extended wait. “He said this publicly... they went back to the writers room with all these thoughts… They basically just wanted to go back to square one.” Seehorn emphasized that this meticulous approach is what makes the show rewarding, noting that Gilligan “wishes he could get it back on sooner!”
Critical Acclaim and Fan Reactions
Despite the production delay, Pluribus has earned widespread praise. The first season scored an extraordinary 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics and fans alike calling it “one of the best shows ever made.” One IMDb user commented, “The casting is excellent but Rhea Seehorn is exceptional. She is a phenomenal actress.” Another viewer described the series as a “real gem,” while a fellow user added that it was “one of the best shows ever.”
The show's unique premise—a post-apocalyptic world where most of humanity is connected by a happy hive mind—has been lauded for its genius idea and fantastic execution. Fans are eagerly awaiting further updates, but the news that the writers are starting from scratch suggests a longer wait ahead.
Pluribus season one is currently available to stream on Apple TV.
