Classic Sitcom Stars Admit Famous Jokes Stopped Being Funny During Filming
In a rare and candid interview, actors from the beloved British sitcom Only Fools and Horses have disclosed that many of the show's iconic jokes lost their humour for the cast due to extensive rehearsals before recording. Tessa Peake-Jones, who portrayed Raquel in the series, shared insights into the filming process, revealing that stars such as David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst often felt very nervous prior to performing in front of a live audience.
Rehearsals Diminished Comedy Impact
Peake-Jones explained that the repetitive nature of rehearsals led to classic gags becoming stale for the actors, despite their eventual success with viewers. This admission sheds light on the behind-the-scenes challenges of producing a comedy series, where timing and delivery are crucial yet can become mechanical through practice.
New Special to Feature Unseen Content
A forthcoming television special, titled Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive, is set to air on U&A Gold. This programme will feature appearances by Peake-Jones, David Jason, Gwyneth Strong, and Sue Holderness, offering fans a nostalgic look back at the show. The special will include 66 previously unseen clips and scenes, which have been digitally restored from original 16mm negatives to ensure high-quality viewing.
Tribute to Creator John Sullivan
In addition to showcasing rare footage, the special will pay tribute to the late creator of Only Fools and Horses, John Sullivan, honouring his legacy in British television comedy. David Jason commented on the enduring affection for the series, expressing enthusiasm about sharing these rediscovered moments with loyal fans worldwide.
The revelations highlight the contrast between on-screen humour and off-screen realities, providing a deeper understanding of the actors' experiences while celebrating the timeless appeal of Only Fools and Horses.
